The Week Before Christmas

Wow! What a busy weekend! It was definitely fun, but I am exhausted. Our friends, Jeremy, Jamie, and Sarah Layne were down Friday evening and Saturday. We took them to see a few sights around Roanoke on Saturday and didn't make it back home until after 8 p.m. Needless to say, Grant was a big grouch by the end of the day. We went to the mall (Grant, Chris, and Sarah rode the train around the big Christmas tree), to Mill Mountain to see the Roanoke Star, and up to Smith Mountain Lake to see Chris' new store. I had never been to the Lake before, but I have to say that it is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The houses there were amazing. Everyone was right on the water and each house had it's own dock. Huge, beautiful houses. I can't even begin to imagine what a house like those would cost. I definitely wouldn't want to have to clean one of those, but then again, I suppose if you had that much money you could afford to pay someone to clean it for you, huh? I didn't get any pictures at the Lake, but I did get some pictures from the overlook on Mill Mountain of downtown Roanoke.

Grant loved being outside most of the weekend. We took a walk up the street on Friday afternoon and he loved watching all of the kids ride their bikes and seeing the dogs in their yards. The weather was so nice! He just pointed and babbled about everything he saw. Everyday with him is a new adventure. Just seeing him smiling and happy makes any stress or worry I have go away in a blink. Chris has taught him how to give hugs, and can I just say that it is the most adorable thing ever?

I had to buy some diapers for Grant the other day and quickly got a dose of reality when I realized I needed to start buying baby no. 2 (still no name) diapers as well. So, I left Target with size 4 and newborn size diapers. Eeek! $40 for diapers! I'm going to be in the poor house before long.

Anyway, this week is bound to be just as crazy since it's the last week before Christmas. Christmas is definitely my favorite holiday but I really don't like it until I'm finished with my Christmas shopping and wrapping, which usually isn't until a couple of days beforehand. Preparing for Christmas can become so stressful. It doesn't seem like I get to enjoy it until Christmas Eve. Hopefully, I can get the rest of my shopping done before Thursday along with my wrapping. I'm just ready to breathe that sigh of relief.

Happy holidays everyone! I'll post a new blog after Christmas as I'm sure I'll have more adorable pictures and stories about Grant's 2nd Christmas. (We've already discovered that he loves ripping open the wrapping paper.) This should be fun!

Lots of love, Jen.

Love the picture from Mill Mountain!! I kept looking at it (before I read your entry) thinking "that city looks so familiar ..." DUH! I'm glad you all had a nice visit with your friends. Hosting guests is always crazy, but when you can enjoy your time together thats what counts. And you're a good hostess. :)
